My Favorite 5 Horse Trainers

I've been wanting to post more about horses and bring out the whole name and idea of my blog like ever since I started it. But funnily enough, I find horses one of the hardest things to write about. I think it is because I have the most thoughts on the subject and find it hard to limit and order them. But I'm going to try harder...so you can expect to see more posts on horses coming up! :) Anyway here are my favorite horse trainers and why.

1. Jesus (See the Bible)
Of course, we know Jesus is perfect at everything but I'm still pretty blown away by this story of him and a horse.
Mark 11:2  And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.
4  And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.
7  And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.

This really must have been a miracle! The colt had never been ridden, suddenly strangers come, take it from it's home and throw garments on it. Next, Jesus gets on it and as the story goes on people sang and shouted waving palm branches. When you think about it that is a lot for even a trained horse to deal with. Jesus knows the most about horses because He made them. So He is the very best source for training advice. I have found prayer to be a great help to me when working with my horse. It keeps me calm and reminds me that it is God's horse I'm working with.

2. Mark Rashid. (www.markrashid.com)
I've read 3 books by author and trainer Mark Rashid. I've found his ideas so simple and profound. He is unwilling to fight with a horse at any time but looks for clear ways to communicate. The books have helped me see horses and people too in a different and clearer light. He never puts other trainers down but says it is simply about what results you want to get.

3. John Chatterton (johnchatterton.com.au)
I have had a training session with John, read his book and watched one of his DVDs as well. His focus to not dominate the horse and teach it where is comfortable is beautiful and effective. He builds a great groundwork platform from which saddle work flows on naturally.

4. Lauren Woodbridge. (Black Pearl Horses)
Lauren is my riding teacher and employer, and I'm her fan. She is kind and patient with horses, especially wild ones. She loves knowing the science behind everything and how the horse's brain works. She readily embracing new information that aids and simplifies the training process for the horse.

5. Carlos Tabernaberri (www.whisperingacres.com.au)
I learned about Carlos in his articles in Horsewyse Magazine. The tips and tricks he shared there were helpful and made sense. He seems to keep things simple. Also, I gathered from the articles that He believes in God and that was a great encouragement to me.

  1. Jesus (See the Bible) - this is the best. 😊 I had never thought of that story in relation to horse training before though. It is pretty incredible. I like how talk about Lauren too - an unashamed fan. :) Good post, person! xx

  2. Great post! I can't wait for more horse related posts:D!!! I actually have never thought of how crazy that colt in the Bible should have reacted to all the shouting and palm branches! Rosie would have flipped! :)
    Thanks for sharing!

  4. <3 Jesus is the number one always <3 I find it fascinating that in 'training' and working with my horses, they really end up teaching me. And what it really all boils down to is Jesus teaching me through them how to be better.

  5. Yep Jesus is the best with horses! And theres nothing like a personal trainer who is always there for you and doesn't cost you a dime, doesn't even have a time limit! I like to imagine in Revelation where it says about Him coming back riding a white horse. That will be beautiful! But ya know, I probably won't even notice the horse. Also helps keep things in perspective for me.
On the earthly side of things, I'm all out Clinton Anderson. ;) Theres just no way to get around it, his method works!

  7. Hi Rachel!
You commented on my blog, so I had to come over and check out yours. And I have to say, I love it already! It's nice to find other horse-lovers' blogs. :) I really like this post in particular.
Are you a fan of Pat Parelli? We use a lot of his methods at the Barn I work at, and they have been monumental in our horses' development.
